We may make our plans, but God has the last word. (Proverbs 16:1 GNT)
Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. (Proverbs 16:3 NIV)
Journeying through Proverbs is always great reading. God’s wisdom is on that book of the Bible unlike no other. I today was most struck by the consistent thread of reminders about the supremacy of God and His plan-making over my own.
This has historically been a problem for me, as I grew up developing an independent nature and what I thought was a sound sense of scruples. However when my 20’s came to a close, I discovered how ridiculous I was to think that I knew all I needed to know and that my decision making was good and true.
I have always been a planner. I have even gone as far as to spend my childhood playtime setting up to play more than actually playing. God, early on, gave me a desire to plan. However, I now see that this desire was to one day be tested against my ability to surrender to His will.
Today, determine to make good and Godly plans. God can be greatly glorify by the amazing plans of a surrender man or woman. However, don’t neglect the next step. Step 2, surrender those, commit them to Lord. Allow God to veto your plans. Allow Him to redirect and restructure. Though the flaws in the plans of man leave holes and pitfalls, God’s will restores, redeems, and perfects our broken ways.
