I have discovered over and again my tendency to get slowed down in life by my own wander lust. I can often be like that kid who is building a sand castle and sees something shiny in the distance and races toward it, wrecking the construction in the process. There are days where I wake up and struggle to know what is the primary goal for me that day. In work, church, and at home I have to be intentional about staying focused on the “ONE THING.” In this world where multi-tasking is elevated as a great skill, I have recognized that I am destroyed by a desire to “multi-task.” It has been shown that our productivity actually decreases as our multi-tasking increases. We lose so much time when our mind rotates back and forth between those tasks.
It has become abundantly clear that I need to be a one-tasker each and every day. That doesn’t mean that I simply do one thing, but I simplify my focus to the most important thing each day and then move down the list one by one. If all else fails, what is the ONE THING that must succeed for this day to be a success. The answer has been overwhelming obvious, as demonstrated by the above passage: Jesus. He is my priority. That means I must be unswervingly focused on glorifying Him at work, loving my coworkers…at church, leading the people toward loving one another…at home, demonstrating the sacrificial love that He showed to us all.
Never lose sight of where you are headed. Never allow the shiny things of this world distract you from the ONE THING that you are here to do. If you have gotten off track, that’s ok. You are still here for a reason.
Maybe, it’s simply TIME TO GET FOCUSED.
