[Taken from my Deeper Study:]
…Humility!
Jesus is our perfect example.
He came to serve.
Meekness is not timidity, but strength in humility.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth. (Matthew 5:5 NIV)
Right now I am in Italy on vacation and Today I was struck by my pride when my wonderful wife attempted to instruct me in some cultural intelligence as we navigated the subway system.
She warned of the prominence of pick pockets in the subways and suggested I move my back pack to my chest and off my back.
My pride was seriously like, “I’ll be fine… Those precautions seem ridiculous.”
Thankfully my wife isn’t afraid to call me out. She said bluntly. “Oh yeah? That sounds like pride to me.”
BAM! Right between the eyes that hit me.
Jesus himself shares that same precaution…
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. (John 10:10 NIV)
Meekness speaks of a submitted spirit.
This application changed how that moment rolled for me. It also offered an opportunity for my wife to see me recognize that sin and immediately turn away.
I am thankful that Jesus’ example of humility confronts us and in our worldly moments of pride.
I hope we can all look back at our days and see times where our pride died!
In our humility we can show the world our savior!
What is one recent time that you recall your pride needing to die?
