“Spread out your petition before God and then say, ‘Thy will, not mine, be done.’ The sweetest lesson I have learned in God’s school is to let the Lord choose for me.” ~D.L. Moody
I think I’m a pretty smart guy. No genius, but pretty bright. I am proud of my intelligence in one area for sure: knowing that I am not smarter than God.
In my ‘brilliance’ I led my life for years into a world of shambles. I have learned the best lesson: I should not be the one steering this thing. In surrendering to Jesus, I decided to FOLLOW his lead, especially when it doesn’t make sense. I believe those are the moments when I would have turned toward a storm that Jesus would have me to miss.
(image above is a picture I just discovered that my daughter took of me while I was driving. My attempts at steering this thing 🙂 )
The LORD directs the steps of the godly.
He delights in every detail of their lives. (Psalm 37:23 NLT)
I have a proven track record…and not one of success. The Lord has never broken his word and his promises are kept.
Being a Christian husband, parent, and mentor, I have a great responsibility for the direction of my life as well as the direction I intentionally influence others to go. No matter if I instruct those that follow my lead to go one way or another, if I don’t ‘do’ the same, I am doing a disservice to them and to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
You have some important questions that confront you daily. You have critical decisions to make all the time. Do you determine your steps? Or do you let Jesus choose?
A person’s steps are directed by the Lord.
How then can anyone understand their own way? (Proverbs 20:24 NIV)
Is there a place in your life that you still “drive the car?”
What is the next step you need to take to surrendered that to Jesus?
