give me rest1
Have you ever just had days, weeks, or maybe even longer where you just feel DRAINED? I know I have. I woke up this morning feeling completely wiped. It was almost tantamount to a hangover, which I know all to well from my (b.c.) days of wild living. However, it’s been a pretty long time since those days and yet today I woke up feeling like a train hit me, and it’s not the first time in recent history this has happened.
I am continually reminded on mornings like these that ministry has a high level of emotional output involved. It is that emotional output that often acts as a dehydrant (new word :)) and leaves me feeling spent like a runner after a marathon.
Whether you are in ministry or any other emotionally taxing career, this is a very real state of things. So what to do?
Get up and eat.  That was God’s instruction for Elijah as he found himself pretty low on energy and faith sitting under a tree after a pretty draining day of ministry where he spiritually battle and ultimately killed many prophets of Baal.
An Angel of the Lord said to him.

“Arise and eat, for the journey is too great for you.”  1 Kings 19:7b

Simple enough, right? But that’s it. The journey IS too great for us. Alone we will not make it through the journey. So I need to seek Jesus for my rest, get up, and get fed.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

give me restAs fast as the trials and struggles of yesterday left me depleted, I need to be repleted.

So today, if you find yourself running on E, get to the pump and get gassed up.
Jesus is “the pump.” Jesus is our well of living water, that will keep us refreshed as we come to Him.
So today, let us all decide to get up and eat.
