In the map searching for location number two’s whereabouts in relation to abandoned storefront #1, we stumbled upon a quirky issue that I have and in retrospect, love. I am great at finding my way around and understanding directions, but I’ve figured out that I don’t ever travel “south.”
It is not that I never actually go “south.” It’s just that I always refer to it as “north.” It is the weirdest thing. Weirder still is that I never have that problem with “east” and “west.” I always accurately determine those directions. Lariza and I discussed it for a bit and discovered the reason was because, that I associate south with down and north with up, due to their placement on maps and compass location.
We determined that my optimism and just sheer hope leads me to always see the situation as looking up and on its way to success. I don’t want to think that I am going down.
Even though this causes me to occasionally get those directions wrong, which I usually recognize and correct or am quickly corrected by another, I don’t see it as a problem, but a character enhancement from Christ.
I remember years when I had no hope of anything looking up. I remember days when I saw my future and cringed. There were nights when I simply wanted to curl up in a corner and die, but HE SAVED ME. Jesus took a man who, while wise in his own eyes, failed at life and made him into a man who could only go NORTH.
This is the beauty of finding yourself in a deep pit of despair, on your way out— ALL ROADS LEAD NORTH!
Be blessed and be a blessing!
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,” 1Peter 1:3 (NIV84)
