Last Sunday, I was afforded an amazing opportunity. During my lead pastor’s vacation, I was able to preach. It was only one Sunday, but it was absolutely awesome.
Those of you who have been following one of my blogs on identity, Who I Am In Jesus, know that identity has been a hot issue for me for that past 6 months. God has been really trying to hammer down, not only in my head but in my heart, the truth of who I really am, because of Jesus and what He has done, for me, in me and through me.
If you haven’t already realized this, you will recognize that identity RULES you. Who you are WILL determine what you do. In my study and prep for this opportunity to preach, God led me to two books that I’d love to share that in many ways can help the readers grapple with the question of who they are.

1. Craig Groeschel’s Altar Ego  This book was great and filled with many sticky lines. I strongly recommend this to all.

2. Jonathan Martin’s Prototype. This book was a creative journey through identity crisis and discovering how we becoming fully alive and fully human. Very fun and stimulating read.

3. What Should I Do With My Life? by Po Bronson. This third book, is the book that my friend, Lynne gave me as I was fired from a job 5 years ago, as I reference in the message. It started me thinking and God used it to move me onto the road of seeking purpose, which led me to him.
In the end, the best source of instruction and encouragement on identity is the only absolutely trustworthy one: the Bible. In the New Testament we find several books that focus almost solely on identity. Ephesians is one of my favorites. In my message, you should find not only my story of identity crisis, but the truth of who God has called us to be and as a result, what we are called to do.

“You can’t know WHAT and HOW, until you know WHO.”

I hope you enjoy my first Sermon, and more importantly I hope that you receive a reminder of who YOU are, and an assurance or repurposing of your calling.
Your saga is far from over and for some of you this could be just the beginning.
